What films or fiction inform the design work you do, and why might that matter? This presentation will offer you a chance to take stock of the fiction inputs to your work and consider the ways that popular narratives about "the future"—which are designed things themselves—are contributing to design work, for better or for worse.
About Aaron
Aaron Long's research examines the ways nineteenth-century science fiction writers imagined the designs of twentieth-century vehicles. In our increasingly designed world, he creates conversation about the sources of our design visions and their potential impact on human lives, including those who are neither users nor designers. He is a Lecturer at the Kansas City Art Institute and earned his doctorate in English at the University of Kansas. His article, "How Jules Verne Reinvented the Royal Navy's Polar Exploration Vessels" is forthcoming in The Nautilus: A Maritime Journal of Literature, History, and Culture.
